Tim Hunter, MD, MSc

Professor Emeritus, Radiology and Imaging Sciences

After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1971, Dr. Hunter completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and joined the faculty of the College of Medicine – Tucson in 1975, where he specialized in musculoskeletal imaging. He later served as chair of the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences from 2008 to 2011 and retired in 2014.

Dr. Hunter, a passionate amateur astronomer since 1950, has authored the "Sky Spy" column in the Arizona Daily Star for over 15 years. He is a longtime member of the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Association and co-founder of the International Dark Sky Association, a nonprofit organization widely recognized as a leading advocate for preserving the nighttime environment and combating light pollution.

In addition to his contributions to astronomy and environmental advocacy, Dr. Hunter has authored several medical books and received numerous awards for his efforts to raise awareness about light pollution and its impact.
