A new study led by Dr. Stefano Guerra, professor of medicine, will investigate whether levels of the lung protein CC16 in childhood can predict risk of early chronic obstructive pulmonary disease later in life.

The award funds a sabbatical for Stefano Guerra, MD, PhD, MPH, to better understand biomarkers that may dictate a child’s developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease late in life.

Clara Curiel-Lewandrowski, MD, has been named the inaugural chair of the college’s new Department of Dermatology, a unit that was formerly housed under the Department of Medicine as the Division of Dermatology.
