Academic Leadership and Innovation in Emergency Radiology
Under the mentorship of our faculty, trainees support radiologist coverage for two of the busiest emergency departments in Southern Arizona:
- Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, the region’s leading Level I Trauma Center
- Banner – University Medical Center South
Together, these emergency departments manage over 135,000 patient visits annually, making our clinical partner a cornerstone of acute care imaging in the region.
We are devoted to education the next generation of emergency radiologists, who benefit from mentorship from emergency medicine physicians, trauma surgeons, neurologists, cardiologists and intensivists. They learn to use imaging to guide interventions for stroke, trauma, cardiac emergencies and transplant evaluations, improving outcomes and reducing diagnostic errors.
Our team also participates in quality improvement initiatives, helping to refine emergency protocols and advance best practices in acute care imaging.
Residents, fellows and medical students benefit from:
- Training in a high-volume, fast-paced service committed to delivering rapid, expert imaging for the most time-sensitive and critically ill patients
- Multidisciplinary teams that include emergency medicine physicians, trauma surgeons, neurologists, cardiologists and internists, ensuring seamless integration of imaging into urgent clinical workflows
- Instruction in providing comprehensive interpretation across all modalities, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, diagnostic X-ray and fluoroscopy
